This is the story of the 40 years journey of the Israelites from Mount Sinai in the desert to the Promised Land. The name of the book refers to the counting (census) done by Moses assisted by leaders of clans before they started the journey.
DAY 58 THE COUNTING OF THE PEOPLE ( CENCUS)
Bible Passage: Numbers 1:1-4,44-47
There are several important reasons for counting the people in a group. The group may be students in a class, people living in a community (village, town/city, state, region, country etc). The Israelites counted men above the age of 20 years who could fight in the army because as they went on their journey to the “promised land”, they had to pass through some unfriendly tribes and fight them.
Nowadays, counting (cencus) includes everyone, even newborn babies. This is because different age groups have different needs that the country must plan for. For example, children of school age need classrooms, books, teachers etc while older people need jobs, houses, cars etc. The things that women need are sometimes different from those of men. A pregnant woman needs certain things, for example immunizations for herself and her baby while pregnant and after delivery. To provide these various things, planners must have an idea of the number of people needing them.

Count how many people are in your class. That should give you an idea of how many sweets, biscuits and bottles/cups of drinks will be needed or number of pieces a cake will be cut into when one of you celebrates a birthday.
