DISOBEDIENCE OF THE FIRST COMMANDMENT
Bible Passage Exodus 32:1-14
Even before Moses got down from the mountain where God gave him the Ten Commandments, the people had asked Aaron to make gods for them to worship. They had forgotten about the great God who delivered them from slavery in Egypt and who had been performing so many miracles to make life easy for them even in the desert. A desert does not have food or water but God provided both for them. They did not even have to work They simply collected their water and food.
In spite of all God had done for them, they begged for other gods who could not do anything for them! Imagine them saying (verse 4) “ Israel, this is our god, who led us out of Egypt” Should they have represented God with the idols? No, God was angry with them for doing so and wanted to kill all of them. God is a Spirit and not something you can see or touch.
TODAY’S ACTION
Is there something that seems more important for you to do than to have your quiet time with God or go to church or join worship virtually? It may be your own god because it takes the place God should take in your life. Think about any such thing and pray right now for forgiveness. Tell God that He will always come first in your life.
