DAY 70 FINAL PREPARATION FOR ENTRY INTO THE PROMISED LAND
Bible Passages: Joshua 4:4-7; 5:1-7
As a memorial, the Israelites set up 12 stones, each one representing the 12 tribes of Israel in the middle of Tiver Jorddd Ass n. This was to serve as a reminder of how God parted the river to allow the Israelites cross into The Promised Land. The priests carrying a stone each on their shoulders went before the Covenant Box Of God.
Another preparation was the circumcision of all males born during the 40 years journey. All males who left Egypt had been circumcised but none during the journey.
When the priests reached the other side of the river bank, the water started flowing again and flooded the bank. The Israelites had crossed over into Gilgal near Jericho. It was here that the males were circumcised with knives made from flint as God instructed Joshua. This was a sign that God had removed the disgrace of slavery in Egypt hence the name Gilgal.
All the kings west of the Jordan River and along the Mediterranean Sea heard of how God parted the river for the Israelites to cross and became very afraid
