Bible Passage : Exodus 9: 27 - 35

It is much better not to make a promise than to make and not keep it "A promise is a debt". In certain circumstances it is so easy to make promises like Pharaoh. When he saw that the thunder and hailstones were so destructive he promised to let the Isrealites go. When circumstances change for example, if  we are no longer in need or in trouble, we easily forget our promises. As soon as the hail stopped, Pharaoh changed his mind.

If you have the habit of making "empty promises", that is promises you do not keep, then it will be difficult for people to believe what you say and to trust you. You can pray right now for God to help you stop that habit.

TODAY'S ACTION

Think back and see if you have made any promises which you did not fulfil. If they are not within your ability to keep, then go and apologise to those to whom you made the promises. If you can still do something about them, now is the time to act.
