Look at what Peter calls Christians in verse 9: a chosen people, royal priests, a holy nation, a people of God's own possession.  Do you feel special? I do, because not all people are chosen; only a few.  That does not mean we should be proud.  Instead, it means we must be very humble, merciful, peace loving, and obedient to God in all we do.
