The writer of this letter is unknown, but it was to the group of Christians who almost left the Christian faith.  They had a lot of problems from those that were not Christians.  This letter was to encourage them.

This writer seems to have known or heard or read about Jesus.  He has also read a lot of scripture, especially the Psalms.  He quotes the Psalms that are relevant to Jesus as well as the book of Samuel.
