Paul's letter to the church at Colosse was to correct some false teachers who made the people believe that in order to have salvation, they must worship some spiritual rulers and obey some Jewish laws.

Just like the Galatians, Colossians had arguments on the need for circumcision before one can have salvation. Paul therefore had to write them to explain in detail how one can have salvation. Christ's death for our sins on the cross was the spiritual circumcision or removal of the sins of those who believe in Him. They were made free from the power of sin. As Christians, we must always stress the point that salvation is through faith in Jesus Christ and no one needs to be punished before receiving it.
