DAY 14:  THE ROLE OF CHRISTIAN CHILDREN IN THE HOME

Bible Passage: Gen. 27: 1 - 29 and 41

Jacob, the twin brother of Esau, and the only brother cheated him. It was not his own original design. Who asked him to do what he did? ........... his mother. The devil can use any member of the family to cause us to sin. If you are asked to do something wrong, which you know will cause you to sin, for example stealing, lying or cheating you should not just do it but in a humble way and privately tell the person who has asked you to do it why you think you should not. That does not mean you should find ways to disobey your parents or seniors. Think of what might have happened if Jacob had said to his mother "Mummy, I don't want to hurt Esau. He will not be pleased with me and may not love me as before". He did not say that because he also liked to cheat and immediately agreed with his mother's suggestion.

Your most important role is to promote love in the family. By doing this, other roles like being helpful and obedient become easy.

TODAY'S ACTION

Read more about Jacob and Esau when you have the time.

Pray that God will help you to love your brother(s) and sister(s) more, so that you will not do things that will make them unhappy.

Jacob and Esau were twins, but because Esau was the first to be born, he had more rights in the family. His "junior", Jacob had to respect him the way we should our elder brothers and sisters.
In different countries, the first born son has certain rights. In some, he owns most if not all of his parents' properties and the family listens to what he says in important matters.
See how Jacob took away the rights from Esau. It was bad for him not to have shared his food with his brother and to demand an exchange with Esau’s birth right. Do you sometimes behave like Jacob? If you love your brothers, sisters and friends, you won't do such things to them.

TODAY'S ACTION
Pray for more love for your brothers and sisters, parents and friends.
